Can you still live a long life when doctors cannot heal your illnesses? absolutely yes. This is one of the stories approves this.
A sickly child
Ms. Li, Cheng Yu (3/3/1885~ 2/14/2003) was born to a very poor family near Wudang Mountain in Hu Bei province, China. She was a weak and anemic child who often got sick. When she was only six years old, her father arranged for a wealthy man for potential marriage as his second wife.
Li had a hard time at the new home and was bellied and hectored by the first wife all the time.
A wonderful marriage but sicker body
When she was 17, she was extremely beautiful and attractive, and married her husband to be and lived happily.
But the good times didn’t last. The marriage might take a toll on her health, and in less than 3 years after the marriage, she was affected by tuberculosis. Her husband took her to visit many doctors over the years, spent a great amount of money on doctors’ visits and medicines, but found no cure and no hope. Her health kept deteriorating and she was expecting to die.
A life saving opportunity
Finally, they went to Wudang Mountain, a sacred place, to pray to chase away ill fortune.
They visited the Daoist priest Mr. Zhang, Zhi Shen residing in the mountains. The priest healed her illness!
Some of you may already know, Daoist priests typically are the best doctors without a doctor title: they not only know Traditional Chinese Medicine, they also have a deep understanding of “The Way,” how everything works in this universe, apply the way to the human body, and can use energy to sense, detect, and heal illnesses.
A Life changing decision
After the incident, Li insisted on becoming a nun and living in the temple. At last, her husband found no hope of keeping her and agreed to let her go. Then, she had lived a life very isolated from the rest of the world in the mountains. Even though wars and fighting constantly happened near and far, nothing bothered her. Even though others left the temple due to political pressure during the cultural revolution, she stayed.
Paralyzed life
In February 1989, the mountain was covered by ice and snow. Ms. Li slipped on the icy snow and broke her hip bone, becoming paralyzed. Even with that, she kept active by utilizing a stick to exercise every day for 14 years!
The last moment of life
On February 13,2003, Ms. Li sensed that she was leaving the world. She didn’t let people in as she normally had done during the day by shutting her door. Once she opened her door, she called in everyone from the temple, advised them about what to do after she passed, asked them to wash her body and change her clothes. She read Lao Zi’s “Qingjing,” watched the falling snowflakes outside the window, and then said, “I’m leaving now.” She left the world around 5am at the age of 118!
How did she live a long life?
How did she live to be 118 while she was a very sickly child and almost died at the age of 27?
After she was paralyzed from the slip accident at the age of 104, a nun helped her to brush her hair every day and found out that Ms. Li had grown out many black hairs among her all-gray hair and even produced new teeth!
Trying to find the secret of her rejuvenation, the local government organized a team of health professionals to check on her. Her blood pressure was 130/70, her heartbeat was 70/minute, she had good circulation and clean blood, her internal organs functioned well, she even had beautiful looking skin. She had very straight teeth and still could bite hard food like toasted beans and dried sweet potatoes. She had a clear sharp mind, talked and expressed herself clearly, and had sharp eyesight. After she passed, people found a wooden comb in her purse that she kept along her side all the time and used every day.
Besides she practiced juggling the stick she learned from the temple priest, she was free from desire of anything and lived a very simple life. Her diet was simple with light tasting foods, such as cornmeal porridge with wild vegetables three meals a day.
To prevent getting sick and balance out the entire body, she knew how to eat seasonal vegetables and brew herbal tea for different weather. She meditated every day as other monks and nuns did in the temple.
What do we learn?
Don’t feel sad and just keep suffering from your illnesses or even waiting to die after doctors tell you that:
- There is unknown cause of your illnesses. (which means all their treatments are just guesswork.)
- Your illness is incurable and you need to live with it for the rest of your life.
- You only have a few months/years to live or your life is in jeopardy.
There are plentiful people throughout history healed their illnesses like Ms. Li, I, Julia Sun, and many others have done to theirs. Keep looking for solutions. While you are learning to care for your body, you do need traditional doctors’ help. It’s almost impossible nowaday to find a TCM doctor who can detect the exact problem spot like Mr. Zhang did, especially outside China, but you can visit both a TCM doctor and an energy master to get the same result.
There is high pressure in this modern world, from parents, work, or society, especially for many young people. They are ambitious, pursue their dreams and passions, compete for material things, even chase relentlessly. “Reach for the stars.” “Do the impossible”, and never have a calm moment. How about indifference to fame, fortune, wealth, and social proof, keeping calm, peaceful, tranquil, bothered by nothing, in a good mental state, and living a simple life, like Ms. Li and many centenarians have been doing?!
