The Poorest Centenarian

Mr. Zhang

The secret exercises helped him to live to 103 illness-free, even though he was exceedingly poor, frequently encountered starvation in his life.

Growing up Poor

Mr. Zhang was a sickly child to a poor family with numerous health & heart ailments. As the oldest of the three kids in the family, he had to beg for food when he was only 7 years old. His father died of starvation. When his mother was sick in bed, he was so afraid to lose his mom and becoming an orphan! He called his mom the first thing when he arrived home every day after begging for food for his family’s survival. His mother’s condition was progressively getting worse and one day, he and his two siblings visited a doctor in the early morning, kept kneeling down to the doctor until dawn to beg her to save their mom. As a child, he was determined to become a doctor to help poor people with their health.

The Best Two Years in His Life

He wanted to go to school but his family didn’t have the finance for his schooling and relied on him to go places to beg for food. When he was about 14 years old, he stood outside the school window to learn and ran right away as the class was finishing up to avoid getting caught. But one time the teacher got him and asked why not go to school like other kids do. After the teacher learned his situation, she offered him to help in school to pay for his schooling. Turns out, as Mr. Zhang told people later, working and studying in school was the best two years in his life. But he had to leave the school because he stole food for his family after he learned that they had no food for 3 days.

Living in Temple

Mr. Zhang left home when he was 17 and started his life living in a Daoist temple. Because he was very weak with many health issues, the priest at the temple taught him the special exercises that had been kept secret for over one thousand years. After he practiced the exercises for a year, all his accumulated sicknesses were gone and after a few short years, his prenatal heart problem disappeared as well. He was not only in good health up until his death at 103, but he helped many people find their way to good health.

But life at a temple deep in the mountains was not easy at all during his time. In this modern world, nobody could stay long in temple where they kept experiencing hard labor work, starvation, and loneliness. He experienced starvation many times for up to 6 days without any food, fainted and almost died from it, before being saved by a caring person passing by. But Mr. Zhang stayed in the temple and kept meditating and exercising.

The Last Day of His Life

On the last day of his life, he sensed that he was dying, took a shower, changed to new clothes for the new world, advised people around him to keep practicing Daoism, went into a place in the mountains where he believed was his final destiny prior to his death, and passed. He is the poorest centenarian as I know.
