A variety of “detoxification” diets, regimens, and therapies have been suggested as ways to remove toxins from the body, lose weight, or promote health. I discussed half a dozen of them in the previous posts and explained why those modern detox methods do not work, harm the body in different ways, and create health problems. Then, what is the most effective or the best way of detox?
The Body’s Build-in Detox System
All organs need to cleanse waste from their various functions, and the body also has its special cleansing organs: the Large Intestine, Lungs, skin, Kidneys, Bladder, Liver and eyes, and Gallbladder.
- The bowels get rid of waste in the colon after digestion.
- The Lungs push out waste gas through breathing.
- The skin excretes waste through sweat and breathing.
- The Kidneys and Bladder cleanse the body through urination.
- The Liver cleanses toxic substances in the bloodstream as blood passes through it.
- The eyes excrete waste through tears.
- The Gallbladder meridian goes through the legs and removes waste and excess weight in the legs.
Cleansing methods only work well with a healthy energy system.
When the body has problems, it is not able to cleanse itself as well as it would otherwise. The body then needs help reviving in order to be able to remove waste. Enabling the energy system to function well is the primary means to most effectively cleanse the body. Thus,
The methods to cleanse your body depend on your body’s conditions.
If your digestive tract is burdened from occasionally overeating, then you may eat foods that improve digestion and cleanse the digestive tract, such as cranberries and many other fruits and vegetables as well as their juices, and work on eating less. However, if the digestive tract is burdened because of a lack of digestive ability, then you should strengthen the digestive system. Rice porridge, meat broth, well-cooked potatoes, pumpkin, and many other foods improve digestion. Consuming fruits and vegetables, their juices, or salt water can further damage an already weakened digestive system. Eat foods that strengthen your weakness. When you are strong enough, you will be able to cleanse accumulated wastes and poisons.
Assist the Body’s Cleansing:
Besides strengthening the major organs for them to get rid of toxins from their regular functions, many cleansing methods also assist with removing waste that interferes with energy flow and bodily functions.
What is “poison” or toxins?
Simple, anything that is harmful to people is called “poison”.
What are the types of “poison” or toxins?
We typically classify poisons into three or more categories. The three categories are gas, liquid, and solid poisons. Here we use four categories for detox and easy explanation: gas poison, damp (liquid) poison, blood (liquid) poison, and food poison. We need to cleanse these poisons for good health. How can we detox these different kinds of poisons?
Detox the Body for Different Kinds of Toxins
First, we must figure out what poisons are in our body. Randomly detox without knowing what poison you have will hurt your body!
On the other hand, due to the great changes in the modern world and many unhealthy living habits nowadays, many people have all kinds of poisons. It’s just that some people have more and others have less of each kind.
We can get rid of these poisons through moxibustion, gua sha, massage, and strengthening our digestive system.
- Moxibustion to remove “damp poison”
Moxibustion promotes blood circulation and removes blood stasis, relaxes tendons and collaterals, warms and dissipates cold pathogens, promotes blood circulation and relieves pain, invigorates the middle part of the body (middle warmer) and benefits qi, warms yang and tonifies deficiency, detoxifies pathogenic heat, eliminates blood stasis and stagnation, prevents diseases, and prolongs life. It is particularly notable at getting rid of damp poison.
- Scraping (also called Gua Sha) to remove “blood poison”
Non-drug therapy is preferred for getting rid of blood poisoning because it typically has no side effects like medicines do. Gua Sha acts on the meridian system of the human body. You scrape on the skin as well as on the part of the meridian on the skin. It is typically safe and has a good curative effect.
- Massage Taichong acupoint to remove “gas poison”
The Taichong point is a well-known meridian point for riding of waste gas in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM believes that the liver controls anger, so people who are short-tempered and prone to erupt tend to have gas poison and get angry easily. Therefore, pressing Taichong acupoints can not only relieve gas, but also relieve depression and anger, soothe the liver, and regulate qi. Press and rub the Taichong point for about 5 minutes a day.

- Promote digestion/excretion to remove “food poison”
For people with food poison, two important points to know: One is to promote digestion, and the other is to promote excretion. Once the body is strong enough to digest food and excrete its waste, food poison can be easily eliminated. Do not buy any laxative or other tea on your own. Consult with an experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor as needed. My book, The Total Life Energy Plan, has more detailed explanations on how to strengthen your digestive system and detox your body.
Limit the Intake of Toxins
Besides taking care of our organs and using detox methods for cleansing different kinds of toxins, we should limit the intake of toxins into our body. Anything that the body does not need is toxic to the body. We should only take in the food, water, and air directly created and produced by Nature. All others should be limited or eliminated from our intake to the body. These include:
- Foods with chemical ingredient, food products, and any foods not directly created by Nature, such as enriched flour and rice.
- Medicinal herbs. They typically have poisonous ingredients, even though they might be all natural.
- Chemical drugs.
- Harmful gas and chemicals, such as methane and carbon monoxide, in the air we breathe.
- Pesticides, fluoride, and chemical fertilizers in our drinking water.
- Harmful radiation from electronic equipment, such as cell phones, X-rays, microwave energy, and power lines.
- Poisons from other people, which is discussed in detail in my book, Total Life Energy Plan.
So far, I have shared many aspects of detoxification. I hope you are more aware now of different detox and cleansing methods and get to the right way for detoxifying your body. As always, I hope my posts help! My new book, The Only Way to Good Health, which is planned to publish in January 2023, discusses in more details as well as providing more techniques on detoxification.
