Your new year’s resolution may harm your body and health

Many people want to accomplish their goals, make more progress, and improve their life at the start of a new year! They make new year resolutions, and one of the most popular ones is getting into better shape and health, they may decide:

  • Lose, gain, or maintain weight. 
  • Adopt a new workout plan.
  • Meal prep weekly.
  • Amp up cooking skills.
  • Be more productive.
  • Wake up early. 

Every January, you see more people:

  • Exercise in the gym, on the street, or on a ski trail.  
  • On a diet and eat only foods that are deemed to be healthy and helpful with weight and other health problems. 

But they don’t realize that they may start them at the worst time of the year!

In winter, the sun is further away from us.  Not only do we get much less sunlight and energy from it, but the winter cold takes more energy from our body.
Therefore,

Winter is the time everything slows down because of less active energy (Yang) available on earth. 

  • Plants stop growing, shed their leaves, and stay deep inside earth to keep warm and try to survive winter cold. The plants who cannot resist the cold weather dies. 
  • Animals collect and store more food for eating and providing energy to survive the winter cold. They slowdown or even hibernate to conserve their energy and resources for going through and surviving the whole winter. The animals don’t have enough food and proper shelter for energy die. 

The human are similar to all living things on earth.

Just like plants and animals, more people die in winter than other seasons. We need to learn how to better survive the winter cold and keep life going.
Furthermore,

We humans should do better than other animals.

Instead of risking life from dying in winter, we should provide ourselves with plentiful energy for a longer life.

Winter is the time to conserve energy and resources, keep calm, perform non-vigorous activities, and use as less energy as possible for good health.

Our body is built to store energy, resources, and fat for winter survival.  That’s one of the reasons why we eat more and accumulate more bodily fat in winter. Therefore,

  • Starting exercises that burn body fat and use up stored energy is the worst for our body in winter.
  • Eating so-called healthy nutritious foods or foods packed with nutrition won’t provide the energy needed for good health in winter. These foods include many out-of-seasoned green vegetables and fruit.
  • Staying out in the winter cold most of the time burns and wastes too much body heat and energy. 

What or how should we do then?

  • Meditate to collect energy to our body and only do gentle exercise, such as walking around noon when the sun is highest and closest to us. Do not start intensive exercise and training until the sun brings more energy to earth and the weather is warm, preferably after the daily high temperatures are above 60 degrees for a week. 
  • Eat more high energy foods early during the day such as chicken, beef, and their broth especially if you cannot digest or digest much meat. 
  • Dress warm for winter cold and avoid going out in the cold too much and too often.
