The video above shows many more incidents and deaths from overheated and exploding cell phones.

Cell phones and their chargers may be better and safer in the U.S. and other countries than in China. Still, use a cell phone, as well as other electronic equipment, with care. When charging a cell phone, keep it at least 5 feet away from you in order to prevent burns, electrocution, blast injuries, death, and radiation poisoning. Do not use a cell phone while it is charging or excessively warm. Do not leave a cell phone in the bedroom at night while sleeping.

China opened its door to outside world in the late 1970s and many foreign products, including motorcycles and cell phones, started flooding Chinese market in the 1980s. There is a Chinese saying from the late 1990s and early 2000s, “every person who rode the first batch of motorcycles has already died from accidents and every person who used the first generation cell phones has already died of brain cancer.”

There are no statistics to attest to the truth of this saying. Studies draw conflicting conclusions about whether cell phones cause brain cancer. But most, if not all, of us who use a smartphone, have sensed extra heat, vibrations, or received electric shocks. It is important to be very careful when using a cell phone.
